About the practice

Experienced QS thinking, applied to practical contractor problems.

Focused commercial QS support for small contractors and subcontractors who need clearer records and a disciplined route to the next decision.

The practice

Commercial QS advice focused on payment, variation, final account.

SY Strategy Surveying supports fit-out, renovation, MEP, specialist trade and small A&A contractors. Work begins with the available contract records and separates what was instructed, submitted, assessed, paid and still outstanding.

  • Define the review scope and exclusions before work starts.
  • Build an assessable record rather than an unsupported headline amount.
  • Identify missing substantiation before submission or negotiation.

Stephen Yiu

MHKISRPS(QS)20+ years' experience

Stephen has more than 20 years of quantity surveying and project management experience. His career includes previous roles with consultants and developers.

His project experience spans Hong Kong and Mainland China and includes residential, commercial, Fit-out, hotel and data-centre. This background provides practical insight into how payment applications, VO submissions and final accounts are reviewed, challenged and assessed. SY Strategy Surveying uses this experience to help contractors organise records, identify substantiation gaps and prepare clearer commercial positions.

“Many small contractors do the work properly but lose commercial ground because records, pricing and contract procedures are not kept under control. My aim is to explain the problem clearly and build a workable next step.”
Practice boundaries

Focused support, with a clearly defined role.

The practice focuses on payment, VO and final account support, with contract risk control available when requested. It is not positioned as a full PQS service for major developers, legal contract advice, formal dispute representation or expert-witness work.
